Fat Cats and Billionaires Party at the Crowne Plaza Hotel - Crash the Coal Conference

The fat cat coal and gas magnates are having a conference in Newcastle next week. For over $3000 a ticket, we could sit inside the Crowne Plaza and listen to their plans to rip up new areas of the Hunter and Liverpool Plains, sink gas wells through our local aquifers and add extra terminals to what is already the world’s largest coal port.

But there is a better story to tell. The recent report by the Australia Institute, Mining the truth, show the enormous Australian mining profit margins, just how few people are actually employed in the mining industry (only 1.9%) and that 83% of the industry is foreign owned. So while the billion dollar profit margins (and millions of tonnes of climate change chaos) are shipped overseas, the coal dust, destruction and dirty water stay here in the Hunter.

Join us on Thursday 22 September, 10am, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Wharf Road Newcastle.

Dress up as a fat cat coal magnate ready to show off your wealth. Rising Tide will bring fliers to hand out, banners and placards.

Helpers needed - please contact Naomi Hogan
0401 650 411 if you are free for an hour or two this Saturday 17 Sept for some creative banner painting and costume preparation at Parry St’s Hunter Community Environment Centre in Hamilton.

Letter Writing for the 100% Renewables Campaign

With the government looking so shaky we are very concerned about the delays and want to do what we can to ensure these bills are passed this year.

So.. this is an ask for you to write once again to the multiparty committee on climate change. If they don't hear from us, there will not be any pressure to see these bills pass. We don't want all our hard work helping secure the renewables part of the deal lost now.

Remember to tell them:
Who you are, where you are from, how many people your group represents (if you are a group)The results of your community conversations on renewable energy (if you participated) What you are doing to promote renewables energy/carbon price in your community and why you want to see this legislation passed this year.
If you could BCC
info@100percent.org.au that will help us track this communication.
