Hello CAN members (apologies for cross-postings),
You are invited to the upcoming forum

What: free community forum - all welcome!
When: Thursday 8th September, 6.45 - 9pm
Where: Mayfield Diggers Ex Servicemen's Club, 58 Hanbury Street, Mayfield (meals available at the club)
This event is being hosted by an alliance of local community groups and we welcome all community members to this event. There has been much debate in the media about the proposed carbon price legislation and this forum will address these issues and more.
The objective of the forum is to provide the public with clear and simple explanations on issues relating to climate change, a carbon price and renewable energy by offering expert presentation and by concluding with a Q&A style debate. There will be plenty of time for questions from the audience.
The forum will cover the following issues:
- The science of climate change;
- The proposed mechanism of putting a price on carbon pollution and the accompanying initiatives to be legislated; and
- The renewable energy prospects for Australia that will arise from limiting carbon pollution.
The forum will hear from the following speakers:
Bernard Hockings, Australian Conservation Foundation: "The Al Gore Climate Reality Project"
Georgina Woods, Director of Climate Action Network Australia: "The Clean Energy Legislation Package Simply Explained"
Dr Bill Lilley, Group Leader of Integrated Energy and Economics Modelling at CSIRO: "The Prospects of Renewable Energy in Australia"
MC: Dr Gary Ellem, Project Manager for the Carbon Valley 2050 project, The Tom Farrell Institute for the Environment
The forum will be held with the support of a variety of not-for-profit organisations, including those represented by speakers on the night, as well as local community groups Climate Action Newcastle, Rising Tide, Hunter Community Environment Centre, Transition Newcastle and The Wilderness Society
